MGH Nerve Unit

The Massachusetts General Hospital Nerve Unit works to help people with illnesses and injuries that affect their peripheral nerves. The Unit includes clinicians who provide medical care for patients with neuropathy, and researchers in various topics ranging from basic biology to epidemiology and bioinformatics, all focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of neuropathy.

These are some of the conditions we treat and study:

  • Nerve injuries caused by injury, trauma, or other causes
  • Shingles, postherpetic neuralgia, postherpetic itch
  • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS/RSD)
  • Polyneuropathy (disorders affecting nerves throughout the body) including small-fiber polyneuropathy, CIDP, Guillain-Barré
