Biography
Stephan Züchner, MD PhD MD (h.c.) FAAN, is a Professor of Human Genetics and Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He serves as the Chair of the Department of Human Genetics and the Co-Director of the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. His department is currently ranked #4 amongst all genetic departments in the US (BRIMR). Dr. Züchner is leading one of the most productive teams in identifying novel Mendelian and modifier genes, especially for axonopathies and CMT. By utilizing in house developed software and data sharing approaches, he is currently pursuing large-scale genome analysis in multiple neurodegenerative disorders. The goal is to identify disease mechanisms and foster development of genetic and other therapies. He is also a PI and national steering committee member for the 1 million participant precision medicine project “All of Us Research Project”, a leader in the Undiagnosed Diseases Network, and chairs the newly formed neuromuscular diseases working group under ClinGen.
