    Dr. Karam is Associate Professor of Neurology, Director of the ALS and Neuromuscular Center and Director of the Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship program at the OHSU Brain Institute. Dr. Karam specializes in peripheral neuropathies and motor neuron disease (ALS) and is involved in various clinical trials in neuromuscular disorders.

    Dr. Karam completed his medical training at St Joseph University in Beirut and his residency in neurology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, in New York. He did a fellowship in peripheral nerve pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and another fellowship in neuromuscular medicine and EMG at the Partners program, Harvard Medical School (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston’s Children Hospital) in Boston. Prior to joining OHSU, Dr. Karam was Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

    Dr. Karam is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Peripheral Nerve Society, The Muscle Study Group, the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association and Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS). He is a reviewer for major neurology and neuromuscular journals.
