Biography
Alexander Chamessian, MD, PhD, is a resident physician in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Chamessian trained in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina. While at Duke, he earned his PhD in the lab of Ru-Rong Ji, PhD working on molecular and cellular factors involved in chronic neuropathic pain. At Washington University, Dr. Chamessian continues his research around chronic pain at the Washington University Pain Center in the lab of Robert Gereau IV, PhD. In particular, his current work focuses on elucidating the autoimmune and genetic mechanisms that cause small fiber neuropathy. As a physiatrist-in-training, Dr. Chamessian is committed to helping patients with neuropathy maximize their functional ability and enhance their quality of life.
